RAW RESULTS - MAY 4TH, 2009

Digital Photos | Captures

Starting off with a bang, Raw opened with a highly anticipated match, in which Shane McMahon hoped to exact vengeance from WWE Champion Randy Orton. Not surprisingly, it wasn’t possible for this heated rivalry to come to a resolution just yet, as the match saw interference from both Orton’s Legacy (Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase) and Batista & United States Champion MVP, interjecting on behalf of Shane O’Mac. With the contest ending in a complete and total donnybrook, Raw General Manager Vickie Guerrero emerged and set a new main event, making it possible for the match’s interlopers to earn their way in. Later in the evening, Batista was set to face DiBiase, with MVP competing against Rhodes, with the winners joining either Shane or Orton.

In the first of two matches to determine the participants in Raw’s tag team main event, Cody Rhodes defeated United States Champion MVP by count-out in a non-title match, earning a spot and ensuring that best-case scenario for Shane would be a two-on-two encounter. In the second match, Ted DiBiase defeated Batista by disqualification. With The Animal’s loss, Shane McMahon’s odds in the main event got profoundly worse as Ted DiBiase joined WWE Champion Randy Orton & Cody Rhodes in the night’s 3-on-1 Handicap Match.

In the night’s main event, Shane McMahon faced incredible odds, taking on not only Randy Orton, but also the WWE Champion’s associates Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase, as determined by the Legacy members’ wins earlier in the night. As decreed by Raw General Manager Vickie Guerrero, if Batista or United States Champion MVP were to become involved with the match, The Animal would lose his Judgment Day title opportunity against Orton and The Ballin’ Superstar would be stripped of his U.S. Title.

Heeding Vickie’s threats, Batista & MVP steered clear of the match as Shane O’Mac struggled to hold his own. Though not in a traditional manner, Legacy put a definitive end to the match when they attacked their opponent’s leg using a steel chair and the ring steps, shattering Shane’s ankle and causing the contest to end in a disqualification. Afterward, Batista ran out to the ring, but it was too late as Shane McMahon writhed in agony while being attended to by EMTs.

RAW DARK MATCH
After RAW went off the air, Shane McMahon and Batista defeated Edge and Randy Orton in a post-raw dark match. Shane speared Randy out of the ring, which lead to them brawling back and forth to the backstage area. Edge then set up for a spear, when Batista was down, but Batista countered it by hitting a spear before edge, which lead to Batista getting the pin and the victory.

WWE Championship Match - Triple H, Batista, & Shane McMahon vs. Randy Orton & The Legacy

Randy Orton went into Backlash with the odds stacked in his favor, with numerous ways to take away the only part of Triple H’s life he had been thus far unable to touch: The Game’s WWE Title. Ultimately, however, all “The Viper” needed to seal the deal and walk away from Backlash as the new WWE Champion was the same devastating punt he has used in the past to put Mr. McMahon, Batista and others out for the count.

Before the match could even begin, Triple H chased Randy Orton from ringside, rendering the contest a 3-on-2 match-up, with The Game, Batista & Shane McMahon taking on Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase. However, even in The Legend Killer’s absence, he still had a chance to walk away with championship gold on account of the match’s unique stipulations. If any member of Orton’s Legacy were to pin any member of Triple H’s team, it would result in “The Viper” becoming the new WWE Champion. As Rhodes & DiBiase struggled to hold their own against their opponents, Orton rushed back to the ring, ready to compete.

With such heated, personal rivalries in play, it should come as no surprise that the match dissolved into chaos, with fights spilling out of the ring. As Batista prepared to clobber DiBiase with a steel chair, Triple H intervened, taking the chair from his opponent. As decreed by Raw’s General Manager Vickie Guerrero, if The Game’s team were to become disqualified, it would result in Orton leaving Backlash as the new WWE Champion. This brief distraction was all The Legend Killer needed to strike, leveling his nemesis with a RKO. To the amazement of Orton and the WWE Universe alike, Triple H managed to kick out of the subsequent pin. Refusing to accept defeat, “The Viper” lashed out once again, striking The Game in the temple with a sadistic punt.

As The Legacy made their way up the ramp, with Orton clutching the WWE Title, the fans in attendance kept their eyes glued on the ring, where Triple H lay motionless after “The Viper’s” attack. Suffering from the same maneuver that has put so many Superstars out of commission – some permanently – The Game was loaded onto a stretcher, quickly removed from the ring and taken from the Dunkin Donuts Center in an ambulance as his partners and the WWE Universe looked on in grave concern.

Batista & Shane McMahon def. Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase

Despite Batista’s misdirected spear on Monday Night Raw, The Animal roared back, catching Cody Rhodes with a high-impact spinebuster as The Legacy Superstar was leaping from the top rope. Shane McMahon picked up the pin, transferring invaluable momentum away from Legacy as they head into this Sunday’s pay-per-view. Will McMahon, Batista & WWE Champion Triple H take ultimate retribution and save The King of King’s crown at Backlash? Or will Randy Orton back up his promise of destiny by finally capturing the gold?

SITE UPDATE
Following up on my last update to let visitors know that the site is still on semi-hiatus for the moment as I'm still away on vacation until May 1st. I have been doing my best to keep things posted like news, results and digitals - other things like captures which I'm unable to do right now will be caught up on and posted asap when I get back, and I will also be following up on emails and/or affiliate requests which have come through while I've been away, I do apologize for these delays.

Also as I've been fortunate enough to attend a few recent wrestling events and shows I do have some candids to share - I'll be adding any of Shane to the gallery here, and also sending ones of other superstars and divas around to some other sites. Thanks again everyone. :)
